From seaside town has always been one of the most important shipyards in Italy, we should remember that was part of the historical Repubblica Marinara. The Middle Ages was the period of maximum economic development for this city, this time we came up to us to the urban structure of the old city, many religious buildings, squares and streets that features perpendicular all along the Arno, the current issue the city is not due to a regular development around the original nucleus, as we all might think, but it was expanded around the river. Even today we can see the four quarters characteristic medieval Forisportam which is situated north-east, Chinzica on the left bank, Mezzo and Ponte. Among the routes we are obliged the famous Leaning Tower, the Baptistery, but not only the church of S. Frediano, the Guelph Tower and the Basilica of St. Peter the Apostle.
