Montescudaio is situated in Val di Cecina, its communal territory extends at the beginning from the top of a fine hill of the shoreline plain. The first nucleus of Montescudaio was formed around to a monastero of Benedictine nuns, founded in the 1091 from conte the Gherardo of the Gherardesca.
